The Last Straw

I remember eating out with you. I told the waiter not to put a straw in my cup.

You knew how much I cared for the environment, moreso my efforts to minimize the use of plastic.

But you told the waiter to give you a straw, "kasi sanay ako."

It was clear that you did not respect what I wanted, and you didn't care about the things that are important to me.

I should have known better.

Sometimes I wish I carried a lighter load on my back.

But the thought of having other people carry the load burdens me.

So I still choose to carry the heavy burden.

Twenty-Eight

There's something about birthdays that makes me happy and sad at the same time. Another year, another shot at life, love, and happiness.

And then there's fear of not finding them again. Another year wasted, another year wallowing in sorrow.

When shall my birthday be a day to look forward to?
